The early incarnations of the emergency medical ambulance were far more restricted than the services most people are familiar with today. The first flights date as far back as the 1930s, when aviation was still in its infancy. Over the next several decades, the practice became more common as the United States military employed aeromedical evacuations flights to transport patient casualties from the battlefield to M.A.S.H. units and other military urgent care centers. Gradually, private civilian hospitals and health care organizations began to recognize the value of this mode of transport in the most critical trauma and illness cases.
The United States, and to some extent Europe, for many years led the way in the field of aeromedical evacuations, both in military applications and in the succeeding civilian companies that would later transport patient trauma cases. As health care institutions improve patient outcomes in these trauma cases, the services expanded to include long-distance evacuations in which ground travel is impractical. To date, these services are available from thousands of private providers worldwide. Ambulances of this type continue to evolve both in scope and in how they are organized and staffed.
Modern aeromedical transportation offers service that is in many ways more complex and comprehensive than the bare bones military flights that gave birth to this industry. At Global Life Flight air ambulance, Mexico serves as the international headquarters, with dozens of base stations scattered the world over. But our patient care goes beyond just covering many miles. In addition to this global approach, we also strive to make sure each emergency medical ambulance is equipped with the latest and most effective technology, experiences pilots with exemplary records, caring and well trained nurses and fully trained doctors.
When it comes to quality care and comfortable aeromedical transportation, the professionally staffed worldwide ambulances of Global Life Flight are unmatched. Because each individual is different, we tailor our services to meet the needs of each of our patients. And, unlike our competitors, we maintain consistent care by accompanying patients from the discharging facility, to the air ambulance (Mexico or other base) and all the way to the hospital or home, no matter where it is.
